New details are emerging following the terrifying incident aboard a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, where an Omani co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain and the aircraft suddenly plunged during the midair struggle.

Israeli officials have classified the incident as a terrorist attack and are investigating whether the co-pilot acted alone. Investigators are also examining his background and online activity, including reports of disturbing posts about killing Jews and indications that he may have been radicalized. Officials have said there is currently no clear evidence that Iran directed the attack.

Passengers described terrifying moments as the plane entered a steep dive and began spinning. Three Israeli passengers rushed toward the cockpit after hearing a struggle and helped subdue the attacker. Passengers said they believed they were about to die as the aircraft rapidly lost altitude.

After the attacker was subdued, two additional pilots who were traveling aboard the flight took control of the aircraft. The plane eventually stabilized and was diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.

The incident involved 174 Israeli passengers, including approximately 30 children. B’chasdei Hashem, the passengers were later brought safely back to Israel. The captain, who was seriously injured during the struggle, was hospitalized in Saudi Arabia and was reported to be in stable condition.

Israeli authorities are continuing to investigate how the Omani co-pilot was cleared to serve on a flight to Israel, as well as whether he had any accomplices or outside support.
