Vice President JD Vance declined to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reelection bid, taking a different approach from President Donald Trump, who publicly backed Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s October 27 election.

Trump announced his “Complete and Total Endorsement” of Netanyahu on Truth Social on Sunday, praising him as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and a key partner in confronting Iran. He also warned that Israel’s choice of leadership could affect the United States’ role in addressing the Iranian threat.

Netanyahu thanked Trump for his endorsement, while opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot said Israel’s voters, not foreign leaders, would decide the election.

Asked about Trump’s endorsement during a Monday interview with journalist Mark Halperin on 2WAY Tonight, Vance said he would leave Israel’s election to Israeli voters.

“The president has the most effective endorsement in American or international political history,” Vance said. “I endorse American candidates, and that’s where I’m focused on in the midterms. So I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections.”

When asked whether that meant he opposed Netanyahu, Vance clarified, “I’m not anti-endorsing him. I’m not pro-endorsing him. I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections.”

Vance’s position is notable given his previous involvement in a foreign election. In April, he traveled to Hungary to campaign alongside then-Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who subsequently lost his reelection bid.
